It's proud against the skyline
Shaky maybe, bricks set in a pack
It's now something of a landmark
The glorious Cottingham Stack

Best viewed from a seat in the garden
Of the George, maybe buy a snack
From the menu, at the pub, what a vista
Of the rickety Cottingham Stack

A builder, or someone in construction
Declared if it ever came under attack
Required a little more pointing
That age old Cottingham Stack

I'm surprised more hasn't been written
By a muse or megalomaniac
Of the teetering bricks topped, tailed
And higgledy. The Cottingham Stack

It's a beauty I always return to
My spirit is always drawn back
It deserves a plaque, recognition
